Bill and his colleagues in Leicester have published in December their combined audit results of the pre-operative Vitamin D status of patients being admitted for foot and ankle surgery. The results were published in Foot and Ankle Surgery. Only 17% of patients had vitamin levels deemed within normal levels. 22% were grossly deficient. Our advice is that “at risk” patients should be screened and advised if levels are low as to appropriate treatment.
