Professor Ribbans attended the Royal Free Hospital School of Medicine in London (1973-1980). Following graduation, he undertook junior medical jobs in the London area. As part of his Trauma and Orthopaedic Training, he undertook Clinical Fellowships at Harvard University (1987-1988) and Sheffield (1990). He was a Senior Registrar on the Middlesex-RNOH Stanmore rotation.

He commenced work as an Orthopaedic Consultant in 1991 at his alma mater – The Royal Free Hospital, Hampstead – and started Private Practice in north London, principally Harley Street, the Hospital of St John and St Elizabeth, and the Wellington Hospital. In 1996, he returned to his home town, Northampton, where he worked at the General Hospital until 2012. Since that time Bill’s Clinical Practice has been centered on The County Clinic in Northampton.

Bill’s principle clinical interests are in Foot and Ankle and Knee problems, although a further 10% of his work involves other areas, mostly related to Sports Injuries.

He provides a comprehensive clinical practice relating to bone, joint, muscle, tendon and ligament pathology in these areas.

Like all British Medical Consultants, Bill undergoes an annual appraisal by colleagues to ensure his maintenance of clinical standards and involvement in continuing medical education. He is involved in audit programmes with colleagues to report on clinical outcomes and successfully underwent his 5-yearly GMC Revalidation process in July 2015.
