2024
A very happy new year to all our patients, colleagues, and friends. 2024 is already looking busy for Bill and his team.
In early February, Bill’s next book, A Plague on all our Sports, will be published. Later that month, Bill will be meeting up with colleagues from the university of Cape Town. Bill has been co-partnering research with the South African National Institute of Sport since 2007.
At Easter, Bill will be travelling to India for lectures and meeting with colleagues as part of a team from the university of Northampton. It has been part of a long-held ambition of his County Clinic Podiatry colleague, Manju Mital, and Bill to improve foot and ankle education and clinical opportunities in the sub-continent. Hopefully, this will be the start of this professional journey.
The 2024 cricket season will be Bill’s 29th year providing orthopaedic advice and his 12th as Chief Medical Officer for Northamptonshire County Cricket Club. The squad is already back in pre-season training and looking forward to a successful season in all competitions.
The dates and themes for the 2024 Northampton Sports Medicine and Science meetings have been set. Bill looks forward to welcoming new attendees to the meetings which were first held in 2007.
Finally, Bill’s involvement in safer sport and, in particular, reduction in head injuries in rugby union continues. His membership of the Progressive Rugby group carries on. He feels that public awareness has improved and that with support for sensible alterations in playing techniques, education and protocols these aims to ensure the long-term future of this great game can be achieved.
