RESEARCH and TEACHING
Despite the restrictions placed upon us by the pandemic, Bill has tried to maintain some research and teaching capacity. Bill has participated in lectures via Webinars for surgeons based in Europe and the Middle East on aspects of ankle surgery. Bill continues (with his co-researchers in Northampton and Cape Town) to be active in the field of musculoskeletal genetics. In 2020, he has co-authored Variability within the human iNOS gene and Achilles tendon injuries: Evidence for a heterozygous advantage effect (in the Journal of Science and Medicine in Sport) and Functional COL1A1 variants are associated with the risk of acute musculoskeletal soft tissue injury (in the Journal of Orthopaedic Research). Later this year, he will publish a review on Vitamin D and the athlete-patient in the Journal of ISAKOS (International Society of Arthroscopy, Knee Surgery and Orthopaedic Sports Medicine). In 2021, Bill will contribute to textbooks scheduled for publication in the fields of Sports Medicine and Orthopaedic Surgery.
